IMC Networks Environmental Compliance Statement

RoHS Directive (2002/95/EC)

The Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Directive was passed into law by the European Union. It affects manufacturers, sellers, distributors and recyclers of electrical and electronic equipment containing lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chrome, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE). After July 1, 2006 the use of these materials will be banned in new products sold in Europe.

Our Commitment

In the Annex of Directive 2002/95/EC the use of lead in solders for certain telecommunication network infrastructure equipment is exempted from compliance until at least 2010 (Exemptions are further clarified in ERA report 2004-0603). IMC Networks manufactures equipment for the telecommunication market that meets this exemption. However, IMC Networks is committed to protecting people and the environment and we are working to identify any materials used in our processes that could pose a potential hazard to our employees, customers, or the environment. In 2005, IMC Networks began the process of converting all of its products to be built without any of the banned materials. The qualification of RoHS-compliant components supplied by our vendors and the implementation of new manufacturing processes related to this Directive are underway, with a targeted completion date of the second quarter of 2006. Our goal is to make all IMC Networks products and their packaging materials sold worldwide fully RoHS-compliant by July 1, 2006. An exception to this will be certain legacy products for which RoHS-compliant components are unavailable from any supplier.

WEEE Directive (2002/96/EC)

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) is the European Community directive 2002/96/EC on waste electrical and electronic equipment. It became European Law in February 2003, and sets collection, recycling and recovery targets for all types of electrical goods. In IMC Networks' case, the WEEE Directive defines the importer, IMC's distribution partners, as the "producers". These "producers" are required to register with their local EU compliance agencies, and to offer end users disposal options in accordance with local interpretations of the Directive.

IMC Networks assists with the WEEE Directive by clearly marking ALL of its products with the standard "wheeled bin" symbol, signifying to end users that the equipment has to be disposed of at special treatment or recycling centers, and cannot be thrown away with normal refuse.
