Centralized management makes practical sense for networks of all sizes, especially service provider networks that must monitor and upgrade large quantities of devices. The Unified Management Agent (UMA) allows operators to manage all devices installed in an IMC Networks managed iMediaChassis, with a single IP address, from a central location. In addition, UMA allows operators to centrally manage and administer firmware upgrades over multiple devices.
UMA operates in conjunction with IMC Networks devices which have integrated on-board intelligence, such as the iMcV-FiberLinX series of modules. For example, install 20 iMcV-FiberLinX modules into an iMediaChassis managed chassis at the Central Office (CO), and connect each to a remote iMcV-FiberLinX module installed at the customer premise (CPE); UMA will then allow the operator to manage all 41 devices (including the chassis at the CO) via a single IP address. IP addresses can still be assigned to each iMcV-FiberLinX and they can be managed independently, if desired. UMA delivers complete management flexibility.

With the Unified Management Agent
When an SNMP request for an iMcV-FiberLinX comes in, the iMediaChassis passes the request to the SNMP agent in the specific module. The SNMP agent in the iMcV-FiberLinX provides th relevant management information, which is then routed via the iMediaChassis agent and supplied to the client GUI (iView²).
When an SNMP request for an iMcV-FiberLinX comes in, the iMediaChassis cycles through each slot, checking for iMcV-FiberLinX modules. The iMediaChassis sees the modules in the chassis, and they can be selected, but not managed; the full management interface cannot be accessed. Management for each iMcV-FiberLinX requires a separate connection, and a separate IP address.
UMA allows easy uploads and storage of new firmware versions, for upgrading multiple devices installed in or connected to an iMediaChassis chassis.
With the Unified Management Agent, multiple devices installed in, or connected to, an iMediaChassis can be managed via a Telnet session. In addition, if an IP address is assigned to a given device in the chassis, a Telnet session can be launched for the device as well as the chassis.
NOTE: iView² cannot monitor or manage non-IMC Networks products.
NOTE: Please refer to the respective datasheets for each product iView² supports, as well as the iView² datasheet, for more information on the given product.
