IE-ModeConverter - Fiber Mode Conversion via Fiber SFP Transceivers
Mode converters allow network operators to incorporate multiple fiber types within a network. Single and multi-mode fiber, and single-strand fiber and CWDM wavelengths can be mixed and matched as needed. Cost savings are realized due to the fact that a mode converter is less expensive than replacing an optical blade on network equipment. A typical application of a mode converter is a conversion between single-mode and multi-mode fiber, allowing easy network extension to remote locations.
The Benefits of SFP Ports
The IE-ModeConverter uses SFP modules to provide greater fiber flexibility in the network environment. The hot-swappable nature of SFPs and the numerous fiber modes and types available in SFPs allow for easy configuration and future upgrading as network demands evolve. In addition, operators will see cost savings as they only have to replace a single SFP when upgrading, rather than the entire mode converter.
The IE-ModeConverter operates as a mode converter, not as a rate or media converter. The unit requires two fiber optic SFP modules (sold seperately) to operate, and both must support the same speed range. Copper SFPs are not supported. In addition, the SFP modules must be MSA compliant.
IMC Networks offers a full range of IE-ModeConverter compatible SFPs. For more information, go to the IMC Networks SFP product page.
Extended Temperature Performance
The IE-ModeConverter operates in extended temperature environments (-35 degrees to +70 degrees) often required for installations in manufacturing facilities, outside building premises or other areas where extreme temperatures pose a concern. The "IE" name signifies that the IE-ModeConverter belongs to IMC Networks' line of Industrial Ethernet devices built for demanding environments.
Flexible Powering Options
The IE-ModeConverter also has flexible powering options, offering AC operation with an optional AC adaptor, or with DC power via a built-in 7 to 50VDC powering block. The DC power can be daisy-chained, and the included DIN rail clip is a convenient mounting option. For higher density deployments, up to 18 IE-ModeConverters can be easily mounted in an 18-slot IE-PowerTray chassis.
